Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into bite-sized cubes

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup crushed pineapple, drained (optional for added flavor)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional for texture)

Powdered sugar, for serving

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Prepare the Rolls: Place the cubed Hawaiian rolls in the greased baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut over the top of the roll cubes for added flavor and texture.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Pour the Custard: Carefully pour the egg mixture evenly over the cubed rolls in the baking dish. Gently press down on the rolls with a spatula to ensure all cubes are soaked in the custard.

Let it Soak: Allow the mixture to sit for at least 15 minutes, or cover and refrigerate for up to overnight if you’re prepping ahead of time. This helps the bread absorb the custard fully.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set in the middle. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

Serve: Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.
