Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk (warm)

1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

2 large eggs

For the Apple Filling:

2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese (softened)

1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-3 tablespoons milk (to reach desired consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy. Stir in melted butter and eggs.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with dry ingredients until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter, and vanilla extract. If using, stir in walnuts for added crunch.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x24 inches).

Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the apple filling mixture over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Shape the Rolls: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.

Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Make the Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing well. Add milk a tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is achieved.

Frost and Serve: Once the rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting generously on top. Enjoy your delicious and irresistible apple cinnamon rolls!
