8 oz whole wheat pasta

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (or nutritional yeast for a vegan option)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the whole wheat pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.

    Blanch the Broccoli: In the same pot of boiling water, add the broccoli florets and cook for about 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.

      Sauté the Garlic and Tomatoes: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the cherry tomatoes and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.

        Combine Ingredients: Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet. Toss everything together well. If the mixture seems dry, gradually add pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
