Ingredients

4 thick slices of brioche or challah bread

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (whole or almond milk for a dairy-free version)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon sugar (brown sugar for deeper flavor)

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup maple syrup (plus extra for serving)

Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries) for garnish

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Custard Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined and frothy.

Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak for a few seconds on each side until adequately coated. Lightly press down on the bread to ensure it absorbs enough of the custard.

Heat the Pan: In a large skillet or griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat until it begins to bubble.

Cook the Bread: Place the soaked bread slices in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.

Caramelize the French Toast: Once both sides are golden, drizzle 1/4 cup of maple syrup over the bread slices in the skillet. Let it bubble and cook for an additional minute on each side to caramelize slightly.

Serve: Remove the caramelized French toast from the skillet and place on serving plates. Optionally dust with powdered sugar, top with fresh berries, and drizzle more maple syrup over the top.

Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy your deliciously caramelized French toast!
